About Us

Tarbert, Argyll, is host to a number of popular Festival events and 2013 saw the Tarbert Book Festival become another annual fixture in the West Coast village’s calendar. Taking place in the autumn, this celebration of books and reading has seen a wide range of writers, mainly Scottish, coming to appear at this popular literary weekend. Fiction, non-fiction, crime, poetry and comic art have all featured in previous programmes.

In 2015, the Festival was launched with a children’s event in Tarbert Academy. The organisers are keen to promote reading from an early age and see school pupils’ participation in the Book Festival as something to be encouraged! Our collaboration with Tarbert Academy continues to allow us to co-host free events for pupils on the Friday of our festival weekend.

Our Saturday evening event, the Springbank Sessions, supported by Campbeltown’s most famous distillery, has seen a number of the finest crime writers grace the Tarbert Book Festival stage and is a particular favourite of our local audience.

In 2016 a further development was our first Writing Competition. Read our shortlisted stories here  Story Competition Winners – Read Their Entries
